Hydrotechnical Technologist

The position supports the Water Resources Group, part of the Engineering Department, with field work associated with ongoing water resource related investigations including participating in the construction, application, operation, inspection and maintenance of hydrometric stations and hydrological instruments, devices, and equipment. Office based activities will be related to collating and processing of data, preparing tables, figures, maps, drawings, charts and reports where necessary as well as supporting the maintenance of equipment. Ideal candidates should have up to 4 years experience of hydrology-related work experience that includes practical experience and knowledge of hydrologic methods and techniques, be mechanically inclined e.g. able to set up hydrometric stations, understand the application and limitations of instruments, equipment, and materials used in the implementation of hydrometric stations and monitoring. Candidates should have at least a Diploma from a recognized technological institution (a relevant undergraduate degree would be a bonus), be a registered (or eligible for registration) with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC), must have strong practical skills and experience in surveying (Differential GPS, transit, rod & level, compass & chain techniques). Experience with total station data collection and transfer procedures would be an asset. Candidates should have strong practical skills and experience with working in and around rivers, and using small boats with outboard engines. Experience in mapping and drafting associated with GIS, and CAD-related software would be an asset. Candidates must enjoy working in the outdoors at remote locations under varying environmental conditions, and have a genuine interest in engineering, earth sciences relating to applied water resource activities. Persons with engineering and earth science backgrounds from technological disciplines associated with geoscientific, environmental, water resource or civil/mechanical work will be considered to be suitable candidates for the position.

The Social and Economic Sciences Team focuses on providing services to meet the following main business areas in support of Environmental Assessments and other projects carried out by Rescan: Socio-economic Studies, Land Use Studies, Traditional Use Studies, Community Consultation and Engagement. The jobholder will be responsible for assisting the client and project team with communications and engagement, dialogue and consultation with potentially affected groups, including both First Nations and non-First Nation communities, participating in public meetings, open houses, and other public forums arranged by the proponent and/or the Environmental Assessment Office (EAO), community relations program and planning, creation of culturally relevant outreach and education materials, cross-cultural communication processes and sensitivity training, contributing to the draft Application Information Requirements (formerly "terms of reference") for an application for an environmental assessment certificate to the EAO, assisting in writing the application and providing support to address submitted comments (e.g. issues and concerns) to the EAO, during a public comment period. Junior Environmental Scientist

The Projects function at Rescan serves to scope and deliver on clients’ environmental project needs through activities including establishing project plans, monitoring project progress and managing projects to successful completion.
