Profile

Pangea Minerals Ltd. has retained Rescan to assist in evaluating the development of the Buzwagi Gold Project, a proposed gold mine located in northwestern Tanzania in the Kahama District of Shinyanga Region, south of Lake Victoria.

Overview

The Buzwagi deposit has a mineable gold reserve of approximately 2,000,000 ounces. It is expected to support a mine life of approximately 7-12 years. The mine will be operated as an open pit and may be followed by some underground mining. The size of the open pit size will be dependent on the results of ongoing exploration activity, but would be approximately 1,000 to 2,000 m long by approximately 500 to 1,000 m wide and would have an ultimate depth of approximately 200 to 500 m. Waste rock would be placed on the surface next to the open pit, and ore grade rock sent to processing at the plant on site.

Experience

  • Screening decision by NEMC indicating that a the Project requires a comprehensive EIA;
  • Newspaper publication of the of the EIA Scoping Notice on the Project;
  • Scoping consultations with communities local to the Project, and with local, regional and national government agencies;
  • Preparation in Swahili and English of a Project Information Document outlining the Project and the EIA process, and distribution of this document to interested and affected parties identified to date; and
  • Background research and site reconnaissance.
